Talking about contemporary art from Asia doesn’t merely imply to face up with the geographical situation, but to cope with a situation of radical change, which effects many Asian Countries. We find these transforming processes in emerging countries like India, Vietnam, China or Indonesia and observe their immense influence on contemporary art. With an enormous fruitful productivity the local artists are working off this topic. In representing them, we want to get away from the usual thinking in categories like national identity and geographical affiliation. Our main attention is to display contemporary positions, which deal discursively with that current change of global forces and its artistic manifestations.
Many of the young artists and their work enable an intercultural bridging in a cultural landscape with a lack of non-western positions. With our Gallery we contribute and encourage this constructive dialogue.
