Professional and Academic Information
General Information:
Photography allows me to engage my immediate environment, while maintaining a bit of psychological distance from it through the camera’s lens. The latter is a wonderful bit of refuge from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I enjoy taking photographs of everything from people, to architecture, to whole environments.
In paintings, I use symbols that concisely represent specific social interactions. These interactions are then juxtaposed with one-another into simple or complex nexuses. This is done in order to visually relate a social framework in which some conflict - practical, inane, moral, or otherwise - develops. While seemingly crude in the rendering of representational figures and perspective, I am more interested with how different elements in each work awkwardly relate to one another. To create works in which each element therein stands by itself, is to create works whose whole is less than the sum of its parts.
